Bridal Beauty: Behind the Scenes

Gorgeous pictures from this summer’s weddings keep rolling in! Seeing my beautiful brides in their professional pictures is seriously one of my favorite things about being a makeup artist. For Giles’ wedding, I actually got a bonus.  Her photographer, the fantastic Erin Hoyt, actually took pictures of me in action, and best of all, I don’t look gross in them! Sometimes by the end of a gig, depending on how big it is, how hot the room was, and how long I was up with my teething baby the night before, I can look really ROUGH! I actually look ok in these! (We’re always our own worst critic so of course I start analyzing what I could have done differently…but enough! We should all quit obsessing sometimes.)

But enough about me! Giles’ wedding was really fun. She scheduled her trial for the night of her bachelorette party, so I got to meet her bridesmaids too! I did their makeup as well, so that everyone would be looking amazing for their night out in Chicago. The great thing about hiring your wedding makeup artist for your trial is that everyone gets to know each other a bit, and things on your wedding day go that much more smoothly. I even wrote a whole article about it for Chicago Style Weddings, which you can read here.

Shameless plug aside, in the case of Giles and her bridesmaids, it worked really well to have had trials for everyone. I walked in on wedding day feeling like we were already all friends, and we had a blast. And now, I will stop talking and show you some pictures!

If you look closely in this one, you can see the makeup spraying out of my airbrush!

Talk about natural light! It was a pleasure getting to work in that room!

I have to concentrate really hard on eye liner. Even pros have to work hard to get even lines! I am almost sticking my tongue out here!

The big reveal. I am always nervous! Love to see the smile on her face.

GilesJoe_053

Now it all starts to come together as her mom helps her into her amazing dress. Loved the sheer detail and applique. Giles picked the perfect dress for her style and figure and looked stunning. And can I just say, I love that wine lip on her mom!

GilesJoe_092And here is the beautiful bride!

GilesJoe_094

We opted for very, very soft neutral blush as Giles said she flushes naturally and didn’t want to look too pink. We also used more subtle lashes for her wedding than we did for her bachelorette party. She really wanted the focus on her eyes, without them looking overdone. How did we do?

I hope you liked this sneak peek into what it’s like behind the scenes! Come back on Friday for this lovely brides posed pictures with her handsome groom.

Stay pretty, ladies! xo, Tricia

Chicago Chic Engagement Session Makeup: Maureen

As I shared in my last post, July marked my one-year anniversary since starting Tricia Clarke Makeup. Prior to that, I worked for a major cosmetics company as a store manager. I loved what I did, as I love developing people and it was always busy and exciting,  and I also really liked my company. When I decided to leave the corporate world,  after my son was born,  I was nervous to go out on my own. I knew I wanted to be the primary caregiver for my baby, but I also knew I needed a creative outlet. I’d turned down freelance work for years (you don’t take Saturdays off if you work retail!!) and  really only got to do wedding makeup for close friends and family. I took the leap and it’s turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve every made, and every gig I’ve had this summer has solidified in my mind that it was the right thing to do.

Although Facebook and Instagram have opened up a new world for me in terms of how I can be in touch with other artists, I really have word-of-mouth referrals to thank for most of my new business clients. So if you are reading this and have referred me to someone, THANK YOU! I appreciate every recommendation, every reader of this blog, every “like” on my facebook page, every one of you who tells their friends “I know this girl who does makeup!”.

The subject of this post was no exception. I used to work with her cousin, and was very excited to hear she was planning to get married in downtown Chicago on New Year’s Eve–how glamorous, right? As we were discussing her trial, she mentioned she had engagement photos coming up, so we decided to do her trial the night of the session so she could get more bang for her makeup buck. I cannot tell you how thrilled I was when I got these photos. Not only is Maureen absolutely stunning, but WOW did she pick a great photographer! If you have not checked out Christy Tyler photography, you simply must!

Maureen is blessed with quite possibly the most beautiful skin I have ever laid my hands on. So I am saying up front, I can’t take credit for how luminous she looks, although I wish I could! Because I didn’t have to spend a lot of time concealing blemishes or under circles or minimizing the appearance of pores, I could focus on giving her a beautiful glow and really emphasizing her gorgeous eyes.

photo 2

Look at those lashes and brows! I started with a black and white photo to warm you up…wait until you see the color shots! We opted to use individual Ardell lash clusters to add some volume to her lashes but still feel very comfortable. I contoured her face using a combination of Kett creams and MAC Studio Fix powders, and used Kett airbrush foundation.

photo 3

A petal-pink blush (a combination of Kett creams and Benefit powders) gave her a gorgeous flush, and we kept her lips “bridal pink”. My philosophy on bridal makeup is that I really want my brides to look like themselves, but the absolute most radiant version of themselves. We’re usually not going for statement lips (although I’ve done it a few times on request!) or such extreme contouring that we alter the entire appearance of someone’s face. I love Maureen’s expression in the above photo! She knows she looks amazing!

Here’s a few more of this Chicago-centric session, and you can read about it from the photographer’s point of view as well. And thanks, Christy, for the shout-out!

Maureen, I am so excited for your wedding day. I know it will be here before we know it! And to all my friends and readers, thank you again for bringing wonderful brides like Maureen to me!

Stay pretty ladies!                          xoxo, Tricia

Simple and Sweet Bridal Beauty: Melissa

I can’t believe it’s already August 3rd–this summer has flown by. In July,  I celebrated one year of Tricia Clarke Makeup! As I look back on my first full year as a freelance makeup artist, I am so grateful for all of the brides and brides-to-be who have chosen me to make them feel beautiful for their special days.

As my busy summer draws to a close, I am finally able to start posting some of the gorgeous pics that are beginning to flood my inbox! It is always exciting when I see an email from a bride who has sent me her professional pics.Depending on the day and on the bride, sometimes my job is done and I leave before her dress is even on, so I just ADORE seeing the pics of my brides completely dressed in their stunning gowns, with jewelry, head pieces and colorful flowers. So get ready, because over the next few weeks I will be sharing some of my favorite brides from wedding season 2014!

01_87_D_S_0087

First up is sweet Melissa. Oh Melissa, what a dear heart. This girl is special to me. I have known Melissa since she was about 5 years old, and she joined the Swedish Children’s group my family was in, I was even the folk dance instructor for a few years while I was in high school! ( I have never hid my nerd status and I am not about to start, so there!) While our parents lived in the same town, the fact that I was about 10 years older than Melissa meant that once I graduated from the group, I didn’t see Melissa for about 2 decades, but would hear through the grapevine that she was doing well. Imagine my delight when she contacted me last year and asked me to do her wedding makeup. It was so fun to see her again, and to realize that the sweet little girl I knew had grown into a lovely young woman, so composed and professional, but still genuine and charming and funny.

When we met for her trial, Melissa had already told me that she wears VERY minimal makeup on a daily basis, but understood that she wanted to look great for her wedding and to photograph beautifully. I kept my application to a minimum, and used a light touch in eyeshadow, and did only minimal contouring and foundation, as she really wanted her freckles to remain visible. Melissa took my advice and had her trial on the day of her wedding shower so that she could get feedback from her family and friends . Here is a picture of her finished trial look:

trial

While overall she told me she felt very pretty, she shared with me she still felt like the makeup was too much. THIS is why I insist on trials with my brides. It is so important to me that they not only feel beautiful on their wedding day, but also LIKE THEMSELVES! Because we did a trial, I knew what I had to adjust on the day of the wedding, and I was able to give Melissa exactly what she wanted. Here is a picture of Melissa’s final look on wedding day!

02_532_D_S_0632

To keep the look as natural as possible, I opted to use individual lash clusters, instead of strip lashes. These really blend with her natural lashes and just give her a bit more volume so that her eyes pop but are not too dramatic.

I also used a dark brown gel eye liner (Bobbi Brown, my fave!) instead of black. Melissa had a daytime, outdoor ceremony and we really wanted to keep the look soft and effortlessly lovely.

Using Kett airbrush foundation sparingly, I was able to really perfect Melissa’s already glowing skin so that it would look great in HD photography, but also not look “made-up”. Ooh, look, action shot!

02_07_D_S_0107

As you can see, Melissa has great skin and beautiful rosy tone to her lips. It was really easy to make her look great, I just played up her eyes using soft browns with a bit of gold in the center of the lid to make her blue eyes pop. I also softly defined her brows using my Anastasia of Beverly Hills Pro Palette, which I splurged on this year and have loved SO MUCH! I don’t even know how I did brows before!

01_53_D_S_0053

It was also a treat to get to see Melissa’s mom again after so many years. I love doing mother of the bride makeup, because often times, I really have to win their trust, but once I do, we have a blast. Like Melissa, her mom doesn’t wear a lot of makeup, and wasn’t even sure she wanted me to apply any! I use Benefit’s Porefessional to really smooth out her skin, applied mascara and defined her brows, and did a subtle pink lip–and VOILA! She still looked like herself, but felt special, as she should on such a special day! When Melissa emailed me and told her that her mom really liked the way she looked that day, I smiled for a whole hour. If I can make women feel better about themselves, my work is done!

02_633_D_S_0733

Melissa, thank you for letting me be a part of your wedding day. You are beautiful inside and out. It was a privilege to be allowed to make you feel gorgeous and can I just say, I am THRILLED to have pictures of your beautiful face in my portfolio! I mean, just look at this smile!

02_583_D_S_0683I wish you and your husband a lifetime of happiness! And I leave you, dear readers, with one of Melissa’s favorites from her wedding day. Photo credit goes to Dave Jilek of George Street Photography. I love having these fantastic images–he really captured their joy at becoming husband and wife! Cheers, Melissa and Nate!     xoxo, Tricia

On honesty and hair styling

There’s just something about the smell of hairspray in the morning.

Call me crazy, but to me, the scent of hairspray has always been the smell of possibilities. A morning filled with makeup, hair products, and helping girls look and feel their best is so exciting–I really do love working weddings!

For the last few years, I’ve focused on makeup. But I’ve always been fascinated by hair, in particular the art of the blowout and beautiful up styles. I always did my little sister’s hair for school dances, and though it’s been a while, I knew it was something I should pursue. Starting last year, I took a few mini-lessons from friends, and began practicing on friends and family.

I am pleased to say, I can now confidently offer hair styling as part of my services! I believe in living honestly and authentically, and it wouldn’t be fair to some of the extremely talented stylists I know to claim that I am as experienced as them. I am not. But I have a passion for it, and am always striving to improve my skills. That’s all we can do in life, right? Acknowledge what we love, find our heart’s desire and go after it!

With that, here are some pictures from the first wedding for which I did only hair! It felt so weird to leave my makeup at home and arrive with a just a bag of hot tools and bobby pins. But I loved it! All up styles in these pictures were done by me, makeup done by the amazing Makeup By Jaycie. ( I like to call her my mentor–she’s been amazing as I’ve started my freelance career. Check out her work and you will see why I find her to be so inspiring.)The bridesmaids who wore their hair down did their own hair, and the bride used her own personal stylist.  I’ve done a few weddings now, with both hair and makeup, and I will share more pictures soon.

136mc 151mc 156mc 177mc 196mc

Thank you to Eric O’Connor of Allori Photography for the beautiful images! And Jaycie, thanks for telling me to just start doing hair already! You make me want to be a better artist, and I am privileged to be able to work alongside you!

What have you done that you thought was scary, and found out it was exhilarating?

Stay beautiful, ladies!

xo, Tricia

Bridal Look: Red Lips

I love when brides come to me with a point of inspiration. It can be their veil, a color they love, or a celebrity they want to emulate. In Rachel’s case, she knew she wanted a classic look to go with her chic head piece, and she’d found  a great red liquid lipstick that she thought would work. She was right, and the color was perfect with her gorgeous porcelain skin and rich, dark hair color.

Mr. & Mrs. Brian Bolton-066

In contrast, her sister wanted to go for the smokey eye/nude lip combo that is always popular with bridesmaids. She had gotten a spray tan the day before the wedding, and she would be the first to tell you, get a trial spray tan so you know what you’re in for!

Mr. & Mrs. Brian Bolton-299

I always love collaborating with my brides. Every woman has their own personal style, their own vision of what bridal beauty means to them, and everyone comes with a different level of comfort and experience when it comes to makeup. It is so fun to work together to create a look they love. I adore this picture of the new Mr. and Mrs. B! Thanks Rachel, for letting me be a part of your big day!

Hello Again & Style Swap!

Hi ladies,

It’s been a really busy Spring (it is Spring, right?) and for that I am so grateful. It thrills me to spend my weekends jetting around the city and suburbs, glamming up brides and brides-to-be, high school seniors, actors…anyone who will let me play with their face! I really do love what I do. I’ve been largely absent from blogging, but here I sit on this Saturday, my only one for the next few months on which I do NOT have a wedding, trying to get back into the swing of writing.

I’ve been on Instagram a lot lately, posting phone pictures of my work, and I am on Facebook pretty frequently too, so make sure you check in with me there when you can, but I do miss doing more actual writing and staying in touch with all of you here! I have lots of pictures I’ve taken, new empties posts to write, tons of new products I’ve been picking up, new bridal pictures starting to flood in…basically, I have a lot of things to blog about, I just haven’t been sitting down to do the work!

This brief post is just to let you know that I’m still here, and to thank you for still reading–if there is one thing I struggle with in all areas of my life it’s consistency. I tend to burn quickly and brightly and then fade away. I’ve been doing more reading lately, one author in particular, Shauna Niequist, and have been encouraged to keep trying to write. It won’t all be great work, but to me it’s important. She talks about how sometimes the hardest part is making herself sit down, and I can sure relate. I feel like we’re kindred spirits and I am glad to have found her inspiring voice.

I’m also inspired by my friend Jessica Mefford, of Style, Meet Life. She manages to get 3 blog posts A WEEK! Not always, but usually, and she works on being consistent.  I always think of her when another day goes by and I haven’t written. She is juggling a lot, like most women I know, a toddler, a marriage, full-time job, etc., but she manages to write. Thanks to Shauna and Jessica, I really am endeavoring to get my butt in this seat more often.

Speaking of Jessica, if you live in Chicago, it’s not too late to be a part of the first ever Style Swap, happening tomorrow at Heritage Littles! You can buy tickets by clicking here. I’ll be bringing some of my Spring clothes and accessories that no longer fit my personal style and shape and swapping them for clothes other women are bringing. Jessica is providing cocktails and treats while we mingle, and the clothes that don’t get swapped are being donated to Dress for Success! A sweet deal for everyone, and I am so excited to support her and to get some new clothes!

StyleSwap_Logo_Simple_for-FB

I hope you all have a beautiful weekend, and my butt will be back in this chair on Monday, bringing you a post about one of my sweet brides from last month! Here’s to more writing and less thinking about writing!

Cheers and cheekstain,

Tricia

Trial of Rodan + Fields Redefine

Hi ladies!

As you may have noticed, I am a product junkie. I love buying and trying new things so that I can share them with you. I also love when people give me stuff to try! In the last few months, I’ve noticed that no fewer than THREE people who I have respect for as professionals and as fellow beauty lovers have begun working with Rodan +Fields (remember Pro-Activ?) and selling their skincare. When my good friend Erika asked me if I would try some of their products, I said yes, because I’ve actually been wanting some new skincare, AND because I trust her opinion.

NOW. Let me just say that, I will always give you my honest opinion on products. Even if I get famous one day (HAHAHAHHAHA) and companies send me boatloads of goodies (my dream!) I will still give you my 100% true feedback so that you can make your own decisions about what you spend your money on AND what you put on your face.

Now that I’ve made myself clear, I agreed to do a mini-trial of Rodan + Fields products. Erika sent me the Redefine regimen, including the cleanser, toner,  AM & PM creams, an exfoliating paste and two capsules, one a lip serum and one a skin smoothing serum. Because it was a mini-trial, it was not enough for me to see HUGE results, but my interest was definitely piqued and I can give you all a preview of what to expect from this line!

photo (1)

My favorite products were the Microdermabrasion paste and the Overnight Restorative Cream. The paste is a combo sugar/salt scrub that was not too abrasive but really helped give my skin a healthy glow. After this winter, I needed it! The Overnight Restorative Cream was rich but not gloppy, and absorbed quickly into my skin. It’s formulated with loads of peptides, which help plump up the skin and give you back a more youthful look. During my trial, I actually would layer this over the day cream as well, since my skin is drier since I am still nursing my little guy!

The daytime cream, or Triple Defense Treatment, is actually a great lightweight lotion that has SPF in it–and I think I would reach for this more in the summer, when my skin needs a bit less moisture during the day.

The Daily Cleansing Mask is a great cleanser–got my makeup off but didn’t leave my skin feeling dry or tight. It has a pleasant, fresh smell that’s not overly perfume-y. I spilled the toner after only one use, so I didn’t really get to give that one a fair go! 🙁

As for the serums, luckily, my lips are in pretty good shape, so I didn’t notice a huge difference when I used the lip serum. However, the night renewing serum did really improve the smoothness of my skin when I applied it–I would be interested to use this for a longer period of time to really see the full benefits.

It was fun to see what the hype is all about with Rodan + Fields. I had pretty high expectations because, like I said, I respect the women I know who are involved with the company now. Having had my mini-trial, I will be ordering the night cream for sure and probably the cleanser and microderm paste as well!

photo (2)

IF you have a Rodan + Fields rep in your life who has been asking you to try their products–give it a whirl. I know it seems like everyone is working some kind of side business, but like I said, when 3 people who I trust starting doing the same thing, I figured it was worth it!

IF you don’t know any R+F people–my friend Erika is offering my readers a special deal if you are interested–including 10% off and free shipping! Contact her at emaechtle@yahoo.com She also wanted me to let you know they offer a 60-day empty bottle guarantee, so you have nothing to lose.

Let me know if you have any questions! And let me know if you try anything, I LOVE discussing great finds with you.

Thanks for reading! March/April Empties post coming soon!

xoxo,

Tricia

New Drugstore Faves and Haul Previews!

Hi Ladies!

Is it Spring yet? I am grateful for the sun today, that’s for sure, but I am ready for some 40+ temps, aren’t you? Thanks for sticking with me through this winter! I wanted to show you some of my recent drugstore favorites, and then tease you with some haul pictures. I will have reviews of my haul goodies coming soon, I had a great class at MAC yesterday, and last week I popped into Benefit for some new products, and I am having so much fun playing with everything.

DSCN3030

Ok–this L’Oreal Volume Filler Thickening shampoo and conditioner are so far the best I’ve seen for volume, and they run about $5 each–sweet, huh? They are made with Filloxane–which I have never heard of, and might be a made-up word, but the products deliver on their promises of full, bouncy hair.

The blue bottle is called Miracle Leave In by It’s a 10. My sister got it as a freebie at ULTA, and I am hoping it helps strengthen all the baby hairs I have on my hairline–something my stylist said she sees on almost all new mommies. Did any of you have these? I never had clumps of hair fall out after my son was born, which I have heard women complain of, so I’m grateful for that, but these wispy baby hairs are bizarre. Remember Katie Holmes after Suri–when it looked like she had funky bangs? That’s me, but at least they’re growing. Hopefully this keratin treatment helps.

I’m also trying Suave’s version of Moroccan Oil (since I ran out of the real deal!) and for a cheapie, it’s ok. I don’t think it delivers on the shine as well, and I don’t love the fragrance. It helps make my hair a bit silkier and at about 1/8 the cost, I can live with it for now. It’s made with coconut and Sweet Almond oil, but also a bunch of other ingredients ending in “-cone” so it’s pretty synthetic and when I replenish my Moroccan Oil I will be comparing ingredients. Usually, you pay for what you get!

Now for the previews—first up, Benefit!

DSCN3045

I am loving the Big Easy Bigger Than BB Cream for casual, everyday coverage. Lollitint MAY unseat Cha-Cha tint from my list of Top 5 products—we will have to see! And I of course had to stock up on the Porefessional and They’re Real–duh.

DSCN3049

You could almost do your whole face (minus brows) with just these products!

Okay, here’s my MAC haul:

DSCN3058

I took a Master Class at MAC PRO yesterday–WOW. Romero Jennings taught the class on mature skin and he was great. I learned a lot about technique, in particular in regards to foundation, concealing, and eye sculpting. Can’t wait to get my hands on some “mature” ladies. I have an upcoming Makeup and Martinis night, and those women will be the first to benefit from all my new skills. He also used brushes in ways I’ve never considered, so of course I had to get 6, and wanted at least 10 more.

I’ve got lots more in store for you ladies, something BIG is coming this Friday–make sure you don’t miss any updates. Follow me on Facebook  https://www.facebook.com/TriciaClarkeMakeup where we talk about everything beauty and I dole out advice.

February Empties!

Hi ladies!

It is already March 8th so it is time for my February Empties post! Here it is! (or here they are)!

DSCN2837

This month’s round up features a lot of hair conditioner–funny I ran out of so many all at once. Not surprising though, considering the length and severity of this winter, I’ve been slathering my body, face and hair with moisture at every opportunity.  I’ll start with those.

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Multi-tone Revealing Moisturising Conditioner: This is one of my all-time favorite drugstore hair buys, it works well and hydrates and detangles without weighing my hair down. It is also what I was using when I started dating my now-husband, and because scents are so evocative, whenever I use it I am immediately taken back to those pre-date showers when I would be getting ready and so excited to see him again! Will I re-purchase? Absolutely!

Bed Head by Tigi Urban AntiDotes Damage Level 2 Conditioner: I found this massive bottle at TJ Maxx in early November, having used it previously on my stylist’s recommendation. I truly love this conditioner but I don’t know if it is still made! It smells so freaking good my husband started using it on his curly, coarse (read: grey) hair and so we went through it pretty quickly. I hope I can find some more! Will I re-purchase? Totally, if I can!

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist Deeeep Conditioner: This was hanging out in the shower for a looooong time. It is decent thick, rich conditioner, found in most drugstores, but Aussie reformulated their products a few years ago, and I just don’t love the smell of the new ones. I think the old formulas are still available in Europe so I will be looking next time I am in Ireland! Will I re-purchase? Yes, because it is a good, basic deep conditioner, but I will try other brands for fun first.

Moving right along, out of the shower now!

No. 7 Total Renewal Micro-dermabrasion Exfoliator: My enthusiasm for this scrub waned as I continued using it. It feels a bit too much like a micro-derm treatment to be enjoyable for twice weekly use. Read my full review with edits hereWill I re-purchase? Probably not, but I will try other No. 7 products.

Lumene CC Cream in Light: This CC cream was my second favorite makeup discovery of 2013 and I have recommended it to scores of people. I wore it so much this summer, it is lightweight, but gives good coverage and made my skin look bright and healthy. It has an SPF of 20 and is like a tinted moisturizer on steroids. The only drawback is the slightly strong fragrance which I don’t really mind but which might be a problem for those with sensitivities. Will I re-purchase? Totally.

Lumene Pure Radiance Night Cream: Lumene actually sent this to me to try after my review was chosen for a feature on their Facebook page. It is a totally satisfactory night cream and left my skin comfortably hydrated, and absorbed quickly. Read by first thoughts on it here. I can’t really tell if it helped brighten my skin, then again, this never-ending winter has been rough so I don’t really know what could have helped! As with the CC Cream, there is a stronger fragrance than I usually enjoy in my skincare, but it is a good drugstore option for a richer, quick-absorbing night cream. Will I re-purchase? Maybe, but not right away. I want to try the new Reviva line I keep hearing about first.

Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating Cream: I remembered I had a sample of this when I was starting to get bored with my Lumene cream. The side effect of being a beauty addict is one frequently becomes bored and is always looking for a new favorite! As you know, I love Kiehl’s and this is no exception. I actually had a full size tub of it at one point, but that was pre-pregnancy and my skin was different, so I gave it away! BOO! Now I love this and want a big jar again! Will I repurchase? Yup! Add it to my wishlist of Kiehl’s products!

Make Up Forever High Definition Foundation: Hands down, best thing I discovered last year, this foundation is great! Full coverage, but feels really lightweight on the skin. It’s very easy to blend. The pigmentation is also such that it is easy to build–making modern foundations light years better than their predecessors. I wore it almost every day since I purchased it in early December, and just ran out of it this week. It comes in a wide range of shades and is worth the price–read my full review here. Will I re-purchase? Yes!

Thanks for reading ladies! Have you used any of these products? Have I piqued your interest to try any of them? Let me know!

Stay pretty, girls! xoxo

Review: Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliners

Holy Cow–I have a new obsession! Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliners are as good as everyone says!

Last week, my package arrived containing these little beauties:

DSCN2769

I keep hearing about how wonderful these gel eyeliners are. I needed something new for myself and am trying to get outside my brown pencil comfort zone, and I also needed a long wearing liner for the weddings I do. I ordered 4 of these and so far have used them on myself and clients, and they are amazing. They glide on really smoothly, which makes them perfect for women of all ages. They are ideal for precise application, so they looked stunning on my bride from this past weekend. They’re also great on more mature skin, so I used them on my mom who had a high school pom squad reunion to attend! ( I want to go ahead and say these pictures off my phone are kinda fuzzy, and I didn’t touch up my mom’s lip color before this pic and she’d been kissing my little guy!)

20140228_160934

I thought her eyes looked great–we did her makeup at 2 pm and the liner didn’t budge–despite happy tears at the reunion, and cocktails all night with her friends.

Here are the 4 pots I ordered:

DSCN2777

Colors clockwise from bottom left: Black Ink, Cobalt Ink, Caviar Ink, Black Mauve Shimmer Ink

And, here is my first ever swatch picture!

??????????

Colors from left to right: Black Ink, Cobalt Ink, Caviar Ink, Black Mauve Shimmer Ink

One of the best things about these liners–they wear well EVEN if you don’t apply an eyelid primer or eye shadow! My normally greasy eyelids never hold any product without a primer, but this liner stayed put. VICTORY! So, they’re ideal for a super quick application on a day when you’re not planning to wear a lot of makeup but need some definition. And, the older I get, the more I find I really can’t leave the house without mascara and liner. Can I get an amen from the over-30 set?

Here’s a pic of my easy eye makeup for this snowy Chicago Monday:

??????????Products used:

On brows, Benefit Brow Zings in Medium, Benefit High Brow pencil on brow bone.  On lids: Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer, shadows in Benefit’s Smokin’ Eyes kit, Bobbi Brown gel liner in Black Mauve Shimmer Ink. On lashes, Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara.

And I will also tell you that I am looking forward to a better camera one day, but that won’t stop me from trying to take good pictures for all of you!

If you haven’t tried these gel liners, check out the Bobbi website, they run promotions frequently and I scored these little goodies, which I am excited to try–good timing too as I am just out of my fave eye cream AND eye makeup remover. These liners are pricey, $24 each, but I was able to get 2 of them, plus a mascara and the special liner brush for $46, so watch the website for specials.

Here is the rest of my Monday face. I am smiling despite the fact that it snowed again here. I remind myself daily that this winter will pass, and while it lasts I am enjoying quiet moments watching my little guy grow, and playing with makeup while he naps! Another phone picture, sorry!
